swamp water

Gen-u-wine swamp water, not the good stuff that appears after a pass through the copper coils! The following was done last Tuesday.

I walked down into a part of the swamp that still had holding puddles of scum-covered stuff with a sterilized 2 liter pop bottle and took a sample. Took a look at a droplet with my retired US Forestry Service microscope. Looked like downtown Hong Kong on a Saturday night. I drained the jug to about half, added 4 drops of Food Lion (generic) bleach, gave the jug a shake and went away for 30 (measured) minutes. New slide, Hong Kong was empty of movement. At 400X, nobody was moving. Lots of debris of course as when the sample was taken, the mouth of the pop jug was not submerged and was sucking in the scum that covers stagnant waterholes. I ran the bleached batch through a coffee filter, still had tiny particulates, none of which moved. My nose didn't detect a chlorine smell so I put 4 more drops in the fresh jug with the sample, shook it, then went to bed. Tiny bit of precip in the bottom of the jug in the morning, a shit-load less than what comes from the same from my 168' deep-well water. Smelled faintly of chlorine so I aerated it by pouring it between a couple of jars. Slightly sulfurous taste, far better than the stuff that comes out of most Gulf Coast taps. Made a half-pot of coffee with it and drank the rest.

This was true swamp water. Scummy, full of rotten leaves, possum turds, covered with bacterial nasties, smelled like rotten eggs. Cleaned with 8 drops of bleach and a coffee filter.

Imagine how easy it is to take a few rinsed milk and pop jugs and put good old tap water in them a few daze before services are apt to be interupped. Milk jugs are great as they can be filled years before and used to layer the bottom of one's freezer. When the power fails, food within will keep jus' fine for over a week (11 days for my 1963 Sears Coldspot!) and then there is probably something like the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranchs that'll take off the remainder you and everybody else hasn't BBQ's! Why the fuck do the Zone 3rs want Uncle and Aunt taxpayer to provide them with Evian, ice, and gourmet MREs the day after a blow goes through? Wel-fucking-fare suck-jobs. Lived on the teat since their mothers were born, just a way of life.

Halazone, Wonderbread, and Skippy. Tent cities are easy, military has done it for centuries. Best med care for the wounded, my first pref has always been a corpsman. Fancy can be done later if it's needed.

President Johnson, what were you thinking? Did you really hate "niggers" the way you spoke? Lord have mercy fella, manufacturing a true racial underclass with the "compassion" of your "Great Society" has done damage that can't possibly be corrected with any reasonable program in less than another few generations. Self-esteem can only be generated by self reliance, can never be bestowed or legislated. Human nature can never be legislated, only the field leveled and even then, human nature still exists. Born in innocence or born in sin? Or just born with survival instincts? Martin Luther King in his most famous speech said "I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." What happened? If LBJ was as racist as "documented" and he took King's speech as inflammatory as it was, the Great Society is his beagle ear-pulling of negros for generations. State welfare generates state wards. When a large proportion of folk are wards of the state through generations are totally dependent on handouts from those the "compassionate" government extracts from others, things can get peculiar. Did you read Peggy Noonan's post today? I just finished it. It will need re-reading.

Yeah, I attempted to get photos through the microscope again. Too poor to publish. Used the infinity focus eyepiece setup, works even more poorly with my present digital camera.

what a week!

Last Friday into town in the un-airconditioned buggy and 91 degrees, 38 degrees Monday morning! 35 on Tuesday and the daily highs haven't made the nightly lows (by no closer than 15 degrees) from the previous week! Last Saturday was spent amongst other things, preparing for Wilma on the off chance she was gonna bring her stones up here and rubble the joint. That cold front saved the Gulf coast another pounding and best of all, kept ME from having all together too much firewood like the ass-pounders of last year.

It's been a very busy time beginning to winterize the joint. Got about half of the final mowing of the year finished with just the roof, collard patch, and lane to go. The 26 year old rotary machete blew out it's muffler and I ignored it until the motor mount platform caught on fire. Oops! Got to go remove the fiberglass sunshades from the atrium cap but I'm delaying until I see where Beta goes. They provide a degree of protection for the 7' x 16' tempered glass up there from impacts. This is interesting:

The news this week sucks. From the IDIOT zone 3 residents of South Florida who need Darwining to the jackassery of Iran's main Islamoshit dickhead who intends to really finish Hitler's "final solution", the nooze is pitiful. The joyous howling of the moonbats about the 2,000th American death in Iraq, endless crap about F(P)lame secret agent bitch, DeLay getting "booked", the UN oil-for-food scandal reaching heroic proportions, sheesh. Nope, no teevee nat'l newscasts for me this week other than a few accidental minutes with that snake-lipped thing ABC had on Monday at 6:30 PM. Damn, that bitch hates the US. I do occasionally watch the local newscast on that channel and it's not too bad especially since it comes from the only "blue" county in north Florida. Graphics were posted last Fall, don't feel like looking for them again.

It's sooo damn difficult to understand the mindlessness of the zone 3ers in South Florida. Wilma tracked so close to the NOAA path and was so slow there was ages to prepare. Those mindless "feed me Seymores" whining about not having fuel for their automobiles, no water, food, or ice deserve no more than a vial of halazone tablets and maybe a jar of Skippy with a loaf of Wonderbread. Haysus H. Christos, how damn difficult is it to fill up a few jugs with water and stock up a few cans and boxes of room temp eatables? If one lives where the wind and water are gonna compromise the ability to continue sucking air and you've got a week to consider not being there, why the fuck stay there? Simpathy is found between shit and syphilis in the Funk & Wagnalls.

Do bad things happen to good people? Continually. From the victims of the islamoshits to the victims of the "Great Society" on both sides; from folk whacked by such as the Storm of the Century which killed 6 of my neighbors (wiped out most of a family) to tornados which sometimes whip out of nearly nowhere. One of those whacked a buddy a few years ago, killed his wife and 2 kids while he was at work. T'storms don't just have lightning. Unexpected Hell always deserves all kinds of human compassion, expected Hell deserves compassion commenserate with common sense. Shit happens to everybody. Everybody dies. Houses burn down. Auto wrecks kill nearly as many a year each year as the total death toll of the decade of our involvement in the Vietnam war.

"Mr. Libby has not outed a covert CIA agent". Patrick Fitzgerald, 2:45 PM this PM.

Wonder if that quote will be on the evening news? I'm listening live as I type. Might have to tune in old snake-lips at 6:30! ;o)

It does sound like young Mr. Scooter has got his ass in a crack and if the inditements wind up being proved, maybe he'll 'larn' a lesson my granny and mom taught me a bunch of years ago. Lying just doesn't work worth a damn! Those gals didn't necessarily abide by the Rule of Law, they just used their innate 3rd eye, telepathy, and the fact I was probably guilty anyway! Jeez, the things they let me get away with made the few times I got my sitter switched when it wasn't deserved make me feel guilty! Ever have a little sister? Yup, she was a sadistic child (normal little sister! ;o), "Mikey did it!" She was too cute to use for catfish bait and finally grew out of that habit and sis, if yer reading this, I didn't always get switched!

I've got some interesting results with the reason us folk in the hurricane states need to keep a jug of bleach around. Now I've been a serious hiker for most of my life. Back when I lived in California, I spent all but one Summer on long hikes in the Sierras, 2 weeks to 6 weeks with the shorter times duplicated by bringing other folk with me. I would start a long hike with 2 canteens of water, after that, well, halazone worked just fine. I'm running a little experiment I haven't done since 1978 and if possible with the equipment, post a couple of photos later. The sun just came out for the first time today and I'm gonna go play outside.

toejam

The gals are so pleased with me. I left here to grocery shop around 2 yesterday afternoon for the first time since 9/21 as I'd been out of their rations for a week. They've been eating da good stuff (mostly rice, hamburger, selected greens, & vitamins) but they were out doin' swamp stuff when I left. Much happiness on the return 4 hours later (plus a bit on my part. Went and saw an old friend. Had to learn how to communicate wit' de 'mouf'. kinda.) The gals got the pre-cooked goodness, then some standard stuff. Rima was so pleased she wanted a belly rub. Since I don't bend too well anymore, the barefoot rub worked wonderfully! She's as big as her granny (Cookie Monster) these daze and solid as a rock. Since there were 14 bags, my mail (another bag), the camera bag and cooler (buggies die, I always carry a ice chest for flesh), plus a colored teevee (<15 years old, free, works, shoot me! ;o), it took a while to unload.

The teevee hadn't been used in probably 5+ years. After the usual lightning storm of dust, mildew, and whatever blew off, it lit up. Haven't seen colored teevee in a while and after it kinda settled down, adjusted all the knobs (Emerson, April, 1989), watched ABC news. Amusing. Goddamn, those folk hate the US.

Did you read what was on this part of the OpinionJournal last afternoon? I could rant a week's worth about it and not be out of steam. That link is generic, the article was posted yesterday, 21 October. Pat Santy reflects my thoughts with her ability to write. I write shit. She is prolific, got her head wonderfully screwed together (I wish mine was), and is my mandatory must-read after I put on the seat belt.

I kinda tend to believe folk think in the language they have been raised with. Some of the degreed folk at Columbia and Cornell agree these days. Seems there are something around 6,800 running around right now. Language IS a bit of built-in wiring but I doubt it is the 6,800 listed. Kids ability to learn another language tends to fade rapidly after maybe 5 or so, authoritive sources seem to be somewhat not-so. Hell, some kids never learn one!

The family book says I was slow learning English, probably due to being raised in a German "enclave" that dated back to 1834. When I attempted to learn German as a teen, couldn't do it decently. Too confusing, besides, I'd dicovered girls and cars! ;o) The early part was the archaic high German which certainly didn't match 1964 German (but I can still sing olde German songs! ;o). When I took high school Spanish, it was Castilian. Yeah. You know how useful THAT is. Of course my young teacher was a red-headed native of South Alabama and Castilian Spanish blended with a really serious Southern drawl, wellll! Of course, Farsi down-stream is down-right musical with a Southern lilt! (shoot me!)

The United States seems to have 165 languages not counting ebonics and Brooklynese. At least it's not as tough as India with 337 except since the VA couldn't find docs to work for +$80,000 a year (inflation raises that from 1976 to 2005 by 243%. 80K x equals $194,400. No wonder my former wife was charged $7,400 for 30 minutes having her cataracts removed. The facility was owned by a Indian doctor of course.) and totally immune from malpractice (VA is immune). Back in the 70's, they imported a huge bag of them from India and the West Indies with med certs from the various islands and odd unis. The Indians pretty much own the medical system around here these daze as well as the majority of the quick-stops! US immigration quotas don't apply when one family member becomes a citizen. BTW, a lot of the imports are muslim. The Hindu medicos are not very good judged from my time working with them in the VA system and tend to be very crude as surgeons. Probably better than nothing if one has no choice. The hindu shrinks, well, it's best to kill yourself. You'll feel a lot better. The VA invested in a bunch of muslims. Don't go there infidel. Defies description.

* * * * * *
Many years working in OR's. I am NOT a medico, just an engineer wot kept da stuff working. Lots of memories and lots of thoughts. Lots of very, very good people and a few absolutely good surgeons. BTW, the last time I went to a AMA doc was '89 and that was totally foolishness. Not of my doing. Vets do a much better job. Veterinarians, that is! Stitch it up, inject it with the stuff in the closet, that don't work, there's always phenobarb. Sleepytime with no more wakeup calls. I've buried a couple of 2-leggers that didn't make 30. They just didn't want to enjoy the goodies anymore. Not done by vets. Self-inflicted.

To go into that night gently, not by suicide, that is entirely different. I've held many hands of folk that have died. Dieing knowing someone loves you is the best way out. Too many times since 1980, very dear people, very deep holes. Three of those were brightly alive at their last breaths. And in love with the folk around them. Gentle, wonderful folk.

This is a cartooned version of the person that is the most potent part of my soul. She died at 92 6 years ago, can't do diddly-squat about old parts falling off. She is still my access to loving folk. Grace, if you are watching, I KNOW I'm a major disappointment. The full (real) jpeg is 20 MB.

Got a story (damn-near book length) about her that needs telling. Wrote it 2 years before she died. It belongs in someone's book and since I'm not a writer and no longer good at narration, it'll probably join the many in the lost. There are a few extraordinary folk one might meet in one's lifetime. Lots and lots of good folk. Good lord, the world is just full of good people! Some folk are peculiar. Some folk have the ability to see clearly between the lines, intuitively understand and identify de fuckydoodles. Some are natural teachers. Dr. Strogatz and Dr. Swartz are undoubtably dead unless the blue tattoo gave them the ability to be here in 2005. RB would be close to 30 years beyond MS onset last time we shared air. That sucks. Sucks a lot. Norm (W4PLA) has been dead for 36 years and he is still with me in so many ways, Karl, you were a shithead, your widow hasn't taken up with anybody yet (he died 2 weeks after diagnosed with leukemia). He was my best buddy in Wellborn. He was also one of the kindest people I've met in my life. Took less than 2 weeks for him to start feeling feeble to the pine box. Calling him a shithead is high praise! Allus is shitheads! I miss you old friend.

Irene, John, Dot, John again, Lou, Ed, Joyce, John number 3, Stan, Charlotte (worst haircuts on the planet unless yer hair was blue! BEST friends!), Frank, Wade, Fred,..

I won't list a bunch of the mortuary of my dead friends as the names are identical and even if I consider myself not superstious, it dosn't seem right. All of my personal friends named John are dead so that isn't useful. There are a bunch of gals with the same name and 3 young ones I won't list as the names are the same as young ladies I know presently. One needs shooting; time will do it for her. Girls run amok are about the same as boys going bad. Her mamma is seriously addicted to pills and booze, daddy is a fancy dancer. Known them every since I was called in to change her diapers. Grumble.

One of the fellows with the name of 'John' was a most happy drop-in to the lab when it was still working. The lab was vastly reduced and the why won't be here. John was a 78 year old fellow, masters in EE from MIT back when, worked thru a company I won't mention (easy to figure), and when he retired from there, taught! I loved the hell out of [what I called] "my professor". He came down to the swamplab about twice a week. Mostly he sat over my shoulder as I was designing a totaly improbable machine. Other projects as well, normal work-units for funds. He caused me to to go back to MY chalk-talk days and I got back in love with teaching again! Yes, the design worked like a pearl and John's questions, no, they were not useful other than teaching me I like to teach and I used to be pretty good at it. Poor John, he used to walk out of the lab thru the closed glass door. Had to put a tape pattern on it to keep him from banging his head. For kicks and giggles, those that understand various aspects of the physical sciences and have no corresponding college degree are not eligable to teach.

What is really depressing, the tape pattern has finally flaked off. He's been dead for a decade.

Dr. Strogatz and Swartz didn't make 1970. Strogatz got me working on Faraday in the 50's. Yep. I remember everything about him. Goddam sumbich. Outa left me snagging catfish in da creek!

bugscrape saturday

It has been a moderately unamusing and only a partially useful week. The good part has been the last wracking fever finished two Saturdays ago. After eleven passes (not counting the merged fevers), there is a bit of damage and the Borrelia bacteria are still resident. I woke up at about the last time the fever was wracking me plus the 2 weeks this morning and couldn't help myself from saying another prayer of thanks.

Speaking of prayers, I've probably paid more attention to Islam over most of that sand blasted disease of a "religion" than a full Superdome of imams have for the last 30 years. Da sufies, well, dey de cool doods an dey doan boogie ina de same plane man! Try to figure out Mohammed and his cutthroats. This was interesting.

OTHER IMPORTANT SECTS IN MUSLIM HISTORY

Interesting. Marginally useful. Go read the Koran. The link to my 2 copies of the Koran have been vastly modified (both uni libraries) so it may be difficult to get a clear translation these daze. I'm not up to reading it a forth time anytime soon as picking ticks off a dawg is a far more satisfying endevor.

Being kinda busy, I missed the hoot and holler about the ZAWAHIRI-ZARQAWI COMMUNIQUÉ until day before yesterday. That link goes to a CENTCOM edit and thought with the full letter available linked at the end. I was moderately bothered that the text was translated in more-or-less American English, shouldn't have except for my past history with a school buddy who spoke Farsi. Looong story, needs writing. The Shah was blowing all of the outragous grease-money Iran was receiving sending every kid he could find to the US to every school that could take them. My collage buddy came over with his identical twin sisters. Some of you might recall Marlo Thomas. These gals were what she would look like if she was perfect. I wanted both of the (back then, it might have been possible! ;o) I still dream about them. Of course the Shah's reforms got et in the usual mooselimb jihad batshit and Jimmah the Cretin did his deed to make sure the sand lice got the warlords and shamans back running the show. Wonder what ever happened to my bud and his sisters..

* * * * * *

I often wonder if NOW is the progenerator of what is marriage for the last 40 years. There is no unfaithfulness with islamic males. The cunts need covering and hiding. Can't have a blue-finger cunt around. Can't have an islamogirl vote! Thank ya, ya bunch of dip shits.

There is no or very little (read: none) faithfulness with American females. Maybe some, but it sure isn't apparent. I have not met a negro female that had a legal spouse in the last 34 years. Could this be why the jihad will win, especially with the dems? The legal system ejects males and since the "judicial system" down souf' is all negro and all cases anglo (negros here never marry. Fucks up da weafare, hea doan lives hea, hea jus' stays sumtimes) go to max load death. Luv dem nigger judges! Luv dem nigger county commish! Fucking FINE sumbiches. Dem nigger judges, dey make good mooo nigger kids. Dey get dey good shit from de massa!

It's interesting. Da white massas in da commish are, and have been, keen on da good bucks dey get fro' da votes fro do get da good state and fed stuff. Da niggas been doin' fine fro long time.

Yes, educational standards have declined miserably. I was a fuss-budget through 1976-1979, BAD fussbudget. Worked. Public education. Holler at the town hall meetings (holler as an ajt). Goes directly back to hell when one quits.

HUGE failure. Maybe next post. I'm so wore-out on child-rearing I tend to holler.

asininity

Seems to be a bunch of that in the news lately. That Georgia Tech "bomb", yeah, a CO2 whopper. Jeeze, those were old when my grandad was young. I counted seven "law enforcement" agencies involved in that "horror" but didn't hear if the Kampus Kops were called in. The Pakis are all perturbed because Uncle Sugar didn't have a full replacements for all the mud & wattle and dead madrassas kids 2 minutes after that nuclear power/ ballistic missled/ islamobatshit country got a shakedown, the U f*n N wants control of the internet, the seemingly endless whining (and further malfeasance) from the Louisiana moonbat gummit, it just goes on and on... Damn good thing I no longer watch the LSM news. Three times in the last nine months I've been a bit tempted to acquire a colored teevee set to replace the old wreck 30 year old 12" b & w. It has a satisfactory audio section when internally coupled into my 1977 Radio Shack System 7! If it is turned on a couple of days before a program deemed worthy, it'll settle down and quit doing stuff that wore-out vacumn tube sets used to do when the tooobs would go north. Fired it up Sunday morning so I could watch CSI: Miami last night. That show is hardly worth the 33 watts anymore (12 watts on hurricane 12 volt car battery).

THIS is so admirable.

Bridge to Nowhere

[snip]The $223 million two-bridge project would connect the town's airport to Revillagigedo Island, where most of the 13,000 residents of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough live.

The airport is separated from its users by a quarter-mile-wide channel of water, forcing travelers to catch either a ferry or a water taxi.

Some Ketchikan leaders want to rename the airport after Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, for the all the federal money he's brought to the area, including the bridge. Young is chairman of the House Transportation Committee. [snip]

Ketchikan map

One runway, 13,000 people, 1/4 mile of water to cross. $223,000,000 divided by 1320 feet = $168,939/ft. $14,078 per INCH. Yeah. Can't come up with a simile for something this illogical other than using the stolen funds to rebuild the welfare shacks in NOLA.

"It is a duty certainly to give our sparings to those who want;
but to see also that they are faithfully distributed, and duly
apportioned to the respective wants of those receivers. And why
give through agents whom we know not, to persons whom we know not,
and in countries from which we get no account, where we can do it
at short hand, to objects under our eye, through agents we know,
and to supply wants we see?"

-- Thomas Jefferson (letter to Michael Megear, 29 May 1823)

oh dear lord

I've been enjoying Steve H.'s posts (home page link) about surgically modifying pets and the ensuing comments. As far as the docking and ear-pruning, heck, if one is into mutilation I suppose it's OK. If ever a dawg breed needs tail-docking, it's the GSD. Since their tails are huge flags, they've got lots of well developed muscles back there and when they are happy, brace yourself! Neutering and spaying? That's for the owner's convienience. Girl dawgs are messy and go insane every now and then. "Insane" is probably a bit of an understatement when applied to a sweet, loving, child-and-everything protecting GSD gal who turns into a foaming, tear-everything-apart hound from Hell every six months but it's far preferable to deal with that than having her turn into the fat welfare slobs they do when all the bits are excized. That's where the term "bitch" came from. Boy dawgs are opportunistic and will starve themselves, perform monumental jobs of excavation and climbing to acquire access to the above with the result being more pain than pleasure with the bitch turning on him like a mad dog once her needs are satisfied. One must wonder if the female dawg knows she has a "sugar daddy" available to keep her fed and her progeny cared for after having her base instincts tended.

Na. No similarities at all. All hail the "Great Society." Hey, all you ex-daddies out there, do you know where your children wound up?

Steve's latest post is undoubtably going to result in a fatwa from NOW. 'tis truth although over a longer time than he describes.

food units

I got a kick out of Eat at Doug's, an "article" on manatee poaching in cracker Florida. It was a spoof easily identified by the preposterous premise that a cracker "dining club" would invite a liberal vegen columist down into the Big Scrub and let him return! Gotta feed the gators something!

For decades I've wondered why manatees are not farmed. There would never be even the slightest chance of them becoming extinct if they became part of folks' diets and I only know of one other meat animal that is as stupid. Here in Florida, there is a serious problem controlling aquatic weeds which sea cows munch a 100 pounds a day. Spending $70 million a year dumping herbicides into rivers, lakes, etc. strikes me as not only wrong but stupid (hey, it's done by the gummit, what do you expect?). Farm-raised manatee!

Now I've eaten just about anything I've gotten my hands on that has a face and a bunch of things that didn't. There's a few of them I won't repeat (they can go extinct) and some, like the sea cockroach, a.k.a. lobster, have gotten too expensive to be enjoyable. BTW, all that crap about an asteroid impact, volcanism, or a nearby supernova causing the extinction of the dinosaurs is bunk. They just didn't taste good. Birds do. Since whale and seal are pretty tasty, there's a excellent chance manatee is good eatin' as well. I'd try it. The envirowhiners should go for this in a big way what with cutting down all those really risky chemicals (made by those eeeevil corporations) being dumped in our sacred waters and the potential to vastly increase the population of water beef.

Manatee. Better than buffalo. ...which is a shitload better than ostrich or emu. It's a shame cat is so awful or I'd champion the same for the Florida panther. For you folk in the PNW, owl is only fit to eat if you run out of banana slugs so don't get caught up trying this with old spotty.

interesting

This is from the next county over.

How much is the cost of government?
Todd Wilson, editor of the Lake City Reporter
Tuesday, September 20, 2005 7:44 PM EDT

Columbia County and Lake City now have their respective budgets in place for fiscal year 2006. A collection of high-energy workshops and public hearings went into the discussions for each group and when the dust settled, the budgets were approved with very little fanfare.

For the most part, the public acted uninterested and just accepted the budgets of both groups. It was the normal American response: Everyone complains about how much government costs the taxpayers, how much government wastes, and how individuals don't get their money's worth from public movements.

No one really does anything about it.

The griping was done mostly at the coffee shop and around the breakfast table at home rather than where it matters - a public venue.

The county's approved budget is approximately $79 million, while the city's approved budget for the next fiscal year is approximately $28 million. [snip]

This is in a county with a population of around 62,000 and a median household income of ~$30K. Do the arithmetic. Comes to $1,728/head or $6,903 per family of four. I'm not sure what all this covers, doubt if it includes FHP or FDOT, probably not the various entitlements (state function). Ouch.

good grief

"The government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one
end and no responsibility at the other." --Ronald Reagan

Can anyone believe this woman has her head not installed cross-threaded? Or the critter that nominated her? Another sheesh.

More fun!
Fla. Tourists Warned on Deadly Force Law
"Do not argue unnecessarily with local people," it says. "If someone appears to be angry with you, maintain to the best of your ability a positive attitude, and do not shout or make threatening gestures."

Do you feel lucky punk? Well, do you?

The first shot is to distract. The second goes to the biggest part. The third is "insurance". Lawyers have a field day with the third so place it close to the second rather than between the eyes. A knowledge of anatomy is useful. And no, if the fella insults your wife at the biker bar, kneecapping him with the .357 passes muster but if you take out the other knee, it's worth 6 years.

Got to link to Madam Brady. Totally mindless crap.

I enjoy Fred's weekly stuff. Over the last couple of years some of his two-toned typing has had me in a quandry. Less and less every week.

Diving Into The Third World

[snipon] Little while back, I found a story about how Toyota decided to put a factory in Toronto because Americans were too hard to train when they weren’t actually illiterate. Isn’t that why companies don’t have factories in Zimbabwe? “Look, Ma, we’re almost a third-world country. Can I have a spear?” After decades of trying to make every kid as dumb as the dumbest kid, I guess we did it.

America is hollowing out, I tell you. Fast. It’s societal apoptosis, cultural gangrene by national choice. It hasn’t quite gotten bad enough for people in Texas to notice it, as they drive their Subarus to Wal-Mart to buy Chinese merchandise, but give it five years. Maybe ten. The Soviet Union collapsed from sheer bumbling foolishness. We’re working on it.

I figure it must be a current. Or maybe sometimes history has a sense of humor. They that say brevity is the soul of wit. We’ve had a couple of hundred years. Looks like brevity to me.

Lots of the mess comes from the feddle gummint, the employer of only resort for officious and intrusive muddle-headed affirmative-action dullards. Do you know how stupid these people really are? Used to be to get a feddle job you took the Federal Service Entrance Exam, which was actually hard. Now it’s reflectometer readings and estrogen counts, which is why everything Washington touches turns to mud. And it touches everything, like a prospective shoplifter in a jewelry store.

Ever ten minutes a study appears saying that kids can barely read. Yes! In America, the richest most hooptee-whatever, leader of nations, etc. How is this possible? How hard is it to teach kids to read? Not very. It’s hard to keep most of them from doing it.

We’ve managed it, though. The schools are feminized, ideologized, psychologized, amphetamized, egalitized and therapeuted—and run by the government. They do everything they can to keep anyone else from opening a school that might work. We’re not illiterate despite the government, but because of it.

Then there’s the War on Drugs. Uncle Sugar spends billions for decades on eliminating drugs, and what do we have? Every rec drug you’ve ever heard of is available at prices you can’t afford to turn down, delivered by an efficient system of distribution that reaches conveniently into every town in the country. Want half a key of grass? Your friendly local connection will bring it to your door. Suppose Washington tried to distribute drugs that well. Prices would soar. Everyone would go into withdrawal.

How about illegal immigration? The feds really did well on that one, no te parece? Washington tells poor Mexicans, “Look, it’s illegal to cross this border, see? But if you make it we’ll give you welfare, medical care, jobs, driver’s licenses, and schools of a sort for your kids. If you don’t make it, we’ll send you back and you can try again. Now, don’t cross it, you hear?” [snipoff]

There were a couple of other sentences in the above that needed highlighting and even more in the full article. That one just got it because it is so goddamn true. Been true even around here in a very tiny community that did not show up on the big 1976 Rand-McNally roadmap. Lulu did. So did Bertha. And Mikesville. I don't walk too well these days but a 10 minute drive or a 1 1/2 hour walk with far less than store-bought prices would get me that .357, a box of cartridges, all the weed, crank, and heroin one could wish for. Yes, the above was done a while back. No, there will be no more information available. And no, I don't have a .357. My .38 is loaded and by my bedside. BTW, if you ever have a requirement to point a gun at someone, the decision to shoot should come within less than a second. Clear and present danger, pull the trigger. Aim for the big part.

burnout

Ever get totally used up with the ever-increasing batshit reportage? From silly crap like Alaska Airlines getting $225,000 of the federal "budget" to paint one airplane like a fish to Bush nominating one of Gore's supporters to the Supremes all strikes me as assinine. That $236 Million Cruise Ship Deal, oh sweet lord. Gimme just one tiny taste of a reason for THAT. And International A.N.S.W.E.R., the primary organizers of the "protests", where do we get people so numb? Pat Santy has a few thoughts. She's on my daily gotta read list. She's got LOTS of thoughts!

Since I've spent the majority of the last 5 days attempting to do useful things and ignoring the news (can't do it completely, need to get back into the iso mode!), I've no real comments about the "issues"other than we are probably doomed. Sheesh. Listened to Neal Boortz this morning and his comments about maybe it would be a good thing for the dems to get the house, senate, and presidency back was bothersome. His reasons were valid. Kinda. Personally, it probably won't affect me or many folk around 60 years of age much but it'll chew up the remains of the US economy such as it is for younger folk. Bush is a total cave-in on all but one economic issue and that one is only temporary. Other than the resistance against the noble freedom fighters of the followers of Mohammed the Camel Humper, the prophet of the Moon God, he has let us down something awful.

Where is the tip-point when a system goes over to regenerative feedback? Where does it tip into an out of control oscillation? With the open borders policy where somewhere close to 20% (depends on source) of Mexico"s population is living in the US illegally, or when approximately half of the federal budget (not including state and city) going to "Great Society" projects, is it already unfixable? With the welfare programs, what would happen if the payouts were not increased constantly? Or a serious thought to enforce immigration laws? And, just for kicks & giggles, how is our GDP measured? Wal*Mart profits, Homeland Severity costs, and all the tort settlements? Wages of civil servants and teachers in government schools? Income from the military/industrial complex (tax money of course)? Welfare income? Payments involved in the prison and judicial system and the absolute pork in ALL of the DOT "systems"? What IS the GDP these days?

Got some thoughts about energy. Since I'm out of it, they'll keep. ACIDMAN has a case of the crummies and since I've gotten too damn familiar with the brown-outs and zero energy crap this last 6 months, I invite one or more of ya'll to link the photo below to where he might find it. Found it in my .gif file when looking for another I want to use when energy returns.
