Word of the day - bloggerel

Been a little under the weather for a few days. My new neighbors (yay!) came over for a visit Saturday and we went hiking. I picked off a dozen-plus February ticks afterwards, didn't clean up or change clothes before bedtime. Rarely do unless it's been a dirty work day. It's just me and the dawgs don't care. Woke up puffed-up like 3 day road-kill, felt worse. My back was lousy with the little monsters. Takes a few days before the reaction dies back and I'm not friendly during that time. Besides, after a long, hot bath with ScratchX Flea & Tick Shampoo ® , my hair's a mess. Might have improved sooner if I'd used Four Paws ® Good-By Tangles ® , "Removes Mats & Tangles from Dry or Wet Coats. Conditions coat in one easy application. Leaves coat lustrous and easy to manage."

Today was supposed to be going-to-town day with the main product being the purchase of 55 gallon drums of DEET and DDT. Damned if I'm gonna have another year like the last one. Actually I need to find the Avon lady and buy a jug of Skin So Soft. Deet eats my hide.

Did you catch this?

Mexican President Vicente Fox is strengthening Mexico’s ties with the Arab world.

Isn't that just peachy-keen? Last week I stopped by the CFDC office just to see what's happening. The only "clients" in the waiting room were very pregnant Mexican girls. "No habla ingleis senor". I'll check back next year and see if it's possible to detect the difference between love children and body bombs under burkas. Then again, is there a hell of a lot of difference?

I know you saw this on Drudge.

OSCAR HOST CHRIS ROCK SHOCK: ABORTION IN AMERICA IS 'BEAUTIFUL'

There's a chance you saw this on Moxie's blog. Don't open if you're squeamish.

Yes Chris Rock, abortion is beautiful

Gummit don't belong there. Don't make me pay for it either. Truly a sick, sick choice for birth control. No further comments.

Let the squalling begin.

Protests Rise Over Literacy Program Elimination

However, read this little missive from ed dot gov. The first finding kinda indicates this money sink has been useless from it's inception in 1989.

EVALUATION OF PROGRAMS
Third National Even Start Evaluation: Program Impacts and Implications for Improvement
Executive Summary

KEY FINDINGS IN BRIEF

* While Even Start children and parents made gains on literacy assessments and other measures, children and parents in the 18 Even Start programs that participated in the EDS did not gain more than children and parents in the control group, about one-third of whom also received early childhood education or adult education services. I'd like to look at the 150+ gummit programs the Prez wants cut. Wonder if the $150,000 worth of stolen-from-the-taxpayer money given to the Grammy Awards is part of it?

shamelessly copied from pookie's FR post.
